Please read this page and the team information below so you and your player are prepared to accept an offer to play with, or affiliate to, the team.

To pay for umpires and field time, there will be a tryout fee of $20.
Final roster decisions will be made with input from the non-parent volunteer evaluators once the combine and tryout game process is complete.
New players will participate in a combine format tryout. This includes:
Current 11U Dodgers may participate in the combine, but it is not a requirement. Players are asked not to wear any Bytown Dodgers gear for tryouts.
All players trying out for the team will participate in one or two tryout games. The games will be managed by current coaches of the 11U team and evaluated by volunteer evaluators who do not have a child on the team.
Players will play different positions and not necessarily be limited to their preferred positions. Only self-identified pitchers and catchers will play those positions.
Evaluators will be looking at a player’s coachability, situational awareness, compete level, communication, baserunning, game play and overall skillset.
Parents are encouraged to attend the tryout combine and games but are asked not to interact with any players during the tryout process.
What families should know before accepting a roster or affiliate offer.
The team will comprise 11 or 12 rostered players. Those who do not make the team may be offered a spot as an affiliate. Affiliates are invited to practices and games on an “as needed” basis.
12U baseball is significantly different from 11U and is another step towards more competitive baseball. The dropped-3rd strike rule applies, there is no run limit per inning, pitch count rules adjust slightly, and we use a standard 9 or 10 player lineup. This means that a player who is not in the starting lineup does not bat until there is a substitution.
We understand, and encourage, our athletes to participate in other sports through the baseball off-season. There will be conflicts with our winter training and players are expected to attend any winter training that does not conflict with their winter sport.
Once the winter sport season ends, the expectation is that athletes are fully committed to their 12U Bytown Dodgers team. If players choose to play spring hockey, the expectation is still that players prioritize baseball once the regular winter hockey season ends. The team will do our best to manage conflicts around AAA and AA hockey tryouts in the spring.
Competitive sports require a full commitment from players and their families. This entails attendance at all practices, games, tournaments and team events. We understand that the occasional absence will occur. That said, if your family likes to spend every weekend at the cottage, then this program is not for you.
This year, the team intends on scheduling a week-long break from baseball to allow families to plan a vacation. This break will be confirmed once tournaments are scheduled, usually by mid-February.
The 12U Bytown Dodgers program typically costs between $1200 - $1500 per player. This does not include the cost of travel to tournaments and games, hotel and meal costs, etc. Each player is also responsible for purchasing their own uniforms and any required Dodgers swag.
